Bahamas, May 16, 2017 – NassauIn the Bahamas, Perry Gladstone Christie is no longer the leader of the country following a landslide victory for the Free National Movement at the May 10 General Election and is now no longer leader of the Progressive Liberal Party.    “I stand before you as your leader and I declare that I fully accept the responsibility before me.   I also accept without reservation, that the best traditions of our democracy no less the impulses of my own conscience and value system, dictate that I resign as the leader of our party.  This is the correct and only thing for me to do from both a political and moral perspective.   Accordingly I here by resign as the leader of the Progressive Liberal Party with immediate effect.”

The announcement made last night at PLP headquarters in Nassau ends 20 years of Christie being at the helm of the party, which is now reduced to four seats in The Bahamas House of Assembly.  Philip Davis is now the PLP leader.
