Turks and Caicos, April 12, 2017 – Providencieales – Minister of Home Affairs, Delroy Williams has made mention of public transportation in his plan for change while in office. At a press conference held last Tuesday, Minister Williams announced “we have begun a comprehensive review of our Road Safety department and a review of our Public Transportation authorities’ department.”
The announcement is linked to a plan, expressed the Home Affairs Minister, to introduce organized public transportation. Among the first tasks of the Public Transportation authorities’ department will be to oversee how cabs and bus services for residents can be implemented.
At this time, the illegal ‘jitney’ taxis continue to present an unchecked service with concerns about reliability, security and accountability because there is no government oversight.
