Turks and Caicos, April 25, 2017 – Grand Turk – Inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison in Grand Turk came to the rescue of a female prison guard after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by another inmate and at least one resident is outraged at the handling of the victim in the case.

A social media notice, reportedly by an aunt of the woman called for violence against women to stop and explained that the prison guard was ‘viciously attacked’ and then treated inhumanely by police, health and prison officials.

The writer says while the prisoner was taken to hospital for medical care, her niece was subjected to hours of interviewing, with no medical attention despite reportedly having a busted lip, swollen face, feeling violated and being traumatized by the ordeal.

In fact, the family member says, “She was refused medical attention and was told that she could not be at the hospital the same time as the inmate, thus the reason she was taken to the police station instead. It took family members to go and get her from the station to seek medical attention, this after being at the station for hours under extreme duress.”

The family member, in speaking on behalf of relatives vows that this ‘unacceptable’ treatment will not ‘slide like that.’

Magnetic Media has reached out to the Minister of Home Affairs, Delroy Williams who explained that he is about to be debriefed on the situation before he issues an official report and statement. The Minister was asked about procedure, including why the hospital could not accommodate both reportedly injured individuals simultaneously.
