Bahamas, April 14, 2017 – Nassau – Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade has denied that recent promotions within the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) are politically motivated. Greenslade denied the claims during a press conference at RBPF headquarters on Wednesday. The promotions were announced by RBPF days before Prime Minister Perry Christie revealed the general election date as May 10. The promotion announcement was also made by Minister of National Security, Dr. Bernard Nottage.

Greenslade said that rumors regarding the promotions were unfounded. “Anything you see in cyberspace that is a leak, is not a promotion list. You cannot leak something that you don’t have…They are decent hardworking Bahamians and they are more than deserving of what they have received.” A list of 500 officers purportedly promoted on the advice of PM Christie to secure votes has been making the rounds on social media. However, Greenslade called the rumors “stupid.”
