Bahamas, April 18, 2017 – Nassau – They flip burgers, sell McDonald’s world famous fries and make some of the tastiest shakes but every year McDonald’s staff get out of the restaurant to participate in the company’s Annual Fun Run Walk.

“We started this Fun Run Walk in 2012 as a part of our Healthy Lifestyles Initiative, which was the brain child of Jackie Marshall, Vice President of Operations,” said Earla Bethel, President of DanBrad Limited, the parent company of McDonald’s. “They say sitting is the new smoking so we are constantly seeking ways to encourage our employees to be more mobile and less sedentary. We are so pleased that so many of our employees, along with their families, came out to run or walk the 4.4 mile course.”

This year’s walk started at Goodman’s Bay and ended at the company’s headquarters on Market Street North. Cash prizes were given to the top three place winners in the under 30, 30-45 and over 45 categories.

After the walk, employees and their families were treated to a full Bahamian breakfast of chicken, pig feet and sheep tongue souse, stew fish and fresh fruit at the company’s headquarters.  “The walk has definitely grown over the years and the fellowship and camaraderie among staff has strengthened,” said Bethel. “What makes the effort even more worthwhile is the excitement from the employees as many of them are already eagerly awaiting next year’s Fun Run Walk tentatively scheduled for March 10, 2018.”

Since starting the initiative, employees have lost inches and have made the choice to live healthier.
