Jamaican athlete dies in bike crash

Jamaica, April 20, 2017 – Kingston – Retired Jamaican-born British athlete Germaine Mason died in an early morning bike crash along the Palisadoes road in Kingston.  It has been reported that the Olympic medalist, who is a close friend of Usain Bolt, was leaving a party this morning when he lost control of his motorcycle on the Norman Manley Boulevard in East Kingston at 4:20 AM and died instantly.

Traffic Police says Mason was only person involved in the crash and was not wearing a helmet at the time. Bolt and fellow Olympian Michael Frater were among the first on the scene.  Thirty four year-old Mason won Olympic silver for UK in 2008 in the high-jump event.  He retains the Jamaican national record for high jump.
