Bahamas, April 4, 2017 – Grand Bahama – Insurance claims following Hurricane Matthew were nearly half a million dollars and Grand Bahama accounted for the vast majority of the figure. Specifically, Bahamas Insurance Association put the figure at $409 million with Grand Bahama clients seeking $267 million in gross insurance claims.
According to Emmanuel Komolafe, Chairman of BIA, in speaking to Tribune business, he explained that the figure represents 65%. Property insurance claims were
cumulatively $265M, vehicle claims was $1, marine claims was 674,000 and $533,000 were engineering claims for the country’s second island. Insurance claims for New Providence were $125M.
