Grenada, April 11, 2017 – St. George’s – Abaco’s Steven Gardiner gave stellar showing at the inaugural Grenada invitational track and field meet over the weekend; Gardiner beat his own national record set in 2015 and wowed audiences by significantly outpacing his contenders from the US who got second and Trinidad and Tobago, which was third in that 400m B event. Gardiner ran 44.26, which is a qualifying time for the IAAF World Games, set for London in August and the time was faster than hometown sports hero, Kirani James who ran the 400m A event and finished in 45.44.

Gardiner told media that he felt good, is in great shape and that he is very satisfied with his first run of the season.  Gardiner was somewhat disappointed that he was not able to race against James, the golden medal winning Olympian, but he said that day is coming and he is preparing for it.
