Turks and Caicos, April 25, 2017 – Grand Turk – A five and a half hour power outage forced some government and private schools to close early in Grand Turk yesterday.  Later on Monday, FortisTCI responded to Magnetic Media queries via media release and said the outage “was as a resuld of an engine shutdown at the South Base Plant during a routine service.  The outage began at approximately 9 a.m and affected all customers.  Upon determining the cause of the outage, technical crews immediately began work to restore services.  Service was restored to some customers at approximately 10:50 a.m and full restoration was completed at 2:27 p.m.”

There has been a spike in frequency of electricity failures in Grand Turk though, and FortisTCI addressed that by saying the failures are a major focus for the company.  “Technicians and additional generating assets from the Providenciales generation site have been deployed to support the Grand Tur team to normalize services as quickly as possible.  FortisTCI assures customers that the Company is committed to, and working continuously on delivering safe and reliable service to Grand Turk.”

Last week, Budget Debate in the House of Assembly was halted due to an electricity outage in the Capital.
