Turks and Caicos, April 13, 2017 – Providenciales – The Opposition is accusing Premier Sharlene Robinson of flip flopping again.  Appointed Member to the House of Assembly for the Opposition, Royal Robinson says that after criticizing the Dr. Rufus Ewing administration for allegedly collecting work permit fees to bolster its revenue numbers, the Premier and Minister of Finance has done the same thing.

Robinson accused the Premier of substantially increasing her revenue intake from that budgetary line item.  Royal Robinson is speaking ahead of an April 18-21 Budget debate and after he has observed that the budget booklet shows the figure increase from just over $17M under Dr. Ewing to over $18.4M in the proposed budget.  ‘Under this Premier and Minister of Finance, the Residency Permit fees have been increased from $1.768M to $2.3M or an increase of 30% said Hon Robinson as seen in budget booklet.  The PNP National Chairman added, “These figures show that the Premier has not been truthful to the people of TCI about the money that underpins her budget.”

Magnetic Media has reached out to the Border Control Minister, Deputy Premier Sean Astwood about the reason for the reported hike; the DP says he will respond today.
