Turks and Caicos, April 6, 2017 – Providenciales – Terminal and Fire Station Tours are always a delight at Providenciales International Airport.  This week the Turks & Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA) had the opportunity of hosting two groups of students from the Five Cays based, Enid Capron Primary School.

Kindergarten classes of 33 students and the second group of 29 students toured the airport with a main focus on the airport based Fire Department.  Fire Station tours provide the unique opportunity to meet firefighters and learn about what they do in case of an emergency.  The firemen were proud to demonstrate their drills and even suit up in full fire gear for the students to see their equipment in action.

Class tours were led by teachers Evelyn Joazil and Jasmin Malcolm. Each tour was accompanied by three volunteer parents and three TCIAA representatives to manage the groups of preschoolers. All persons had the wonderful opportunity of watching the firemen spray the water hose and even tour the fire trucks.  While at the fire Station each group looked on in amazement as the aircrafts took off and landed on the airside.

These tours are available to schools or even community groups on a prearranged and preapproved basis. It is important for children to lean of the basics of “stop, drop and roll” in order to keep themselves and their family safe by shouting “Fire” and running away from danger.  These basic tips go a long way in keeping the community on a whole safe.

Fire crews are always on high alert at the airport and are ready to respond to an incident even during tours, however it is always important for us to give back to our community and make time for little minds whenever possible.
