DNA on Election Date

Bahamas, April 11, 2017 – NassauThe call for a May 10th General Election is being described as a disrespectful to the HMBS Flamingo disaster.  This according to Democratic National Alliance Candidate for Garden Hills, Youri Kemp, who says the date signifies an important moment and solemn time in Bahamian history, and should serve primarily as commemoration of the disaster in 1980.   He believes holding the polls on this date spoils any commemoration activity scheduled.

The date marks when members of the Bahamas Defence Force Marines were struck down by an aggressive Cuban Military.   As to how the DNA feels about the May 10th day, Kemp says “We had a feeling that this could have been the only feasible date other than extending the election date into June, either early or mid-June”.

Nevertheless, the party remains confident and says he believes a lot can be achieved in the next few weeks to ensure the DNA’s support to keep the DNA lighthouse alive and well. One of the issues touted on the DNA platform for change is fixed election dates, something it believes will put an end to the confusion over transparency of the electoral process in the Bahamas.
