Bahamas, March 31, 2017 – Nassau – A 27 year government employee is saying he is not guilty of voter fraud; not guilty of trying to register twice and receive two voter cards. The 57 year old man from Harbour Island, Eleuthera yesterday appeared in court and was granted 5,000 bail eventually.
Andrew Johnson works at the Water and Sewerage Corporation and is represented by attorney, Philip Hilton who demanded that his client be treated fairly. Hilton had a problem with the way Johnson was shackled and brought to court and requested that his client be released and allowed to return to his home in Briland.
Hilton said Johnson’s image is ruined, and pointed to the fact that the Police flew into Eleuthera to arrest his client; he insisted on a speedy trial so that Johnson would not be denied a right to vote in the next general election. It is alleged that in February, Andrew Johnson, under oath knowingly made a false statement to the revising officer. The matter is adjourned until April 25 and could run until May 1.
