Turks and Caicos, March 30, 2017 – Providenciales  – A fleet of vintage aircrafts will converge at the JAGS McCartney International Airport on April 3, 2017 as aviation enthusiasts from around the globe visit the destination for the launch of the eighth edition of the Governor General’s Cup Caribbean Air Rally.

The Governor General’s Cup Caribbean Air Rally is an annual event covered by major international aviation and travel magazines. Since its inception in 2001 the International Air Rally team has put together one of the largest international air rallies in the region. The purpose of the Air Rally is to promote the beauty, safety and the advantages of flying in the Caribbean, and through their coverage via various media outlets highlight the region as an ideal destination for General Aviation. The International Air Rally also provides training to junior pilots through their Mentoring Program, sponsored by Bombardier.

The Governor’s Office will host an evening cocktail for the pilots and the Ministry of Tourism, Environment, Heritage and Culture will host a welcome reception at the Bohio Resort where the Caribbean Air Rally will have its official start declared on Monday, April 3rd. The crew will enjoy a full day’s tour to some of the historical sites and touristic attractions on Grand Turk before departing to the island of Anguilla on Wednesday, April 5th.

Minister of Tourism, Hon. Ralph L. Higgs commented “The Turks and Caicos is in a unique position that allows us to celebrate the culture and love of aviation with the unparalleled beauty of our islands and our people. We are pleased to be a part of such an esteemed aviation event and look forward to hosting the upcoming Caribbean Air Rally.”

The Governor General’s Cup Caribbean Air Rally will visit the Caribbean islands of St. Vincent & The Grenadines, St. Eustatius, and St. Croix before returning to the Turks and Caicos Islands on April 14th for the grand finale and award ceremony in Providenciales. The Caribbean Air Rally will receive international broadcast on television in North America.

To date, over 500 pilots and aviation enthusiasts have traveled across Canada, the USA, the Caribbean and Latin America in what is usually 13 days of adventure. The Caribbean Air Rally is presented by Aviation Connection, a non-profit organization and official trustee of the Canadian Governor General’s Cup, and made possible by the support of participating Caribbean island’s Tourist Board Offices and Airport Operations.
