Bahamas, March 1, 2017 – Exuma – The over a dozen Exuma Swimming pigs who died mysteriously last month are believed to have eaten too much sand material says Minister of Agriculture, V Alfred Gray.

Speaking to media outside of Parliament on Tuesday, it was explained that no foul play has been detected by the country’s chief veterinarian, and shared that the sand material is indigestible and was found in noteworthy quantity in the pigs’ bellies.

The allure of the swimming pigs is to feed them, but it is how they were fed with food items dropped on the sandy shore and the pigs scoffing all of it down with lots of sand that led to so many of them dying.

The Minister says the information, which came after tests and autopsies, will be used to protect the famous swimming pigs.  It is said there are still 15 Swimming pigs alive on the cay.
