Bahamas, May 6, 2017 – Nassau – The fire, at last check was still blazing in Jubilee Gardens and the fire chief says though the smoke colour has changed; the fire is still a major hazard, too dangerous for residents and his team is still focused on containing it.  These reports are not uncommon in other jurisdictions today either as in South Florida, there are similar stories of the whipping winds making it difficult for fire crews.

The winds are expected to remain brisk until at least tomorrow according to forecasts.  And the fire is hard to tame; it crept into the school yard there at the Acquinas College; the Catholic board of Education says the school will remain closed tomorrow.

To ensure homes which had to be abandoned are not targeted for crime, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force was on guard throughout the night and will continue their watch.  Five pets were taken in at the Human Society.
