Bahamas, March 22, 2017 – Nassau – Not all stores eager to comply with taking corned beef off their shelves.  Supermarkets say notice on the Brazilian meat ban was startling as they did not receive information right away despite announcement by the Ministry and Minister of Agriculture.

Food stores interviewed said they trust their sources for the products and that they have never before had a problem.  Corned beef is a major staple in the Bahamian pantry, therefore a big seller. One owner said the issue with the Brazilian supplier, where tainted beef and poultry were found to be exported after a police investigation into government corruption, underscores the need for The Bahamas to be better at feeding itself.
