Turks and Caicos, March 22, 2017 – Grand Turk – The Bribery Bill is about to go into the committee or adjustments stage in the House of Assembly, and late today Premier Hon Sharlene Robinson found herself chastising the Opposition appointment member; saying his tone during his presentation paints the picture that civil servants are inherently corrupt.  Premier Robinson corrected the idea, saying that there are many honest civil servants in TCIG.

Hon Royal Robinson made reference to several investigative branches of government which he believes were forced upon the TCI.  His presentation was vociferous, and referred to as passionate by a couple of Members of the House of Assembly.

In making some points on the Bribery Bill, Long Bay and Leeward member, Hon Akierra Missick explained that her challenges with the proposal are the same now as they were when the PNP Administration supported the bill’s presentation on the floor.   One key point from the former Deputy Premier was that there appears to be no clarity on how the average person is dealt with for alleged bribery, only how public workers or government staff is handled if suspected of bribery.

The Bribery Bill was brought by Attorney General, RhondaLee Braithwaite Knowles.
