Hospitality workers eager for return of 100% service charge

Turks and Caicos, March 27, 2017 – Providenciales – The reinstatement of 100% of service charge going directly to hospitality workers is something both major political parties promised they would see done if elected.  So it is no wonder that thousands of workers are tuned into what will happen as the House of Assembly is again charged with deciding the fate of the motion, which in 2016 was brought by the PDM as Opposition and now in 2017 is being brought by the PNP as Opposition.

Appointed member for the Progressive National Party, Hon Royal Robinson last week slammed the government for not getting to the motion on the agenda and demanded that his private members motion go through all three readings when next the House of Assembly convenes.

Magnetic Media understands that the HOA resumes today.  It was also shared with us that the Tourism Minister, Hon Ralph Higgs has already alerted Hotel and Tourism Association members that the gratuity going 100% to their staff is coming and Premier Hon Sharlene Robinson said simply, that they did not get to motion in last week’s meeting.

Currently there is a 60-40 split of the service charge, employers keep the larger portion reportedly for overhead and other services provided to staff including free meals and free transportation to and from work.
