Health Minister tours Mental Health home phase one

Turks and Caicos, March 14, 2017 – Grand Turk – The Ministry of Health says 12 low risk clients will be first to populate the Mental Health Home in Grand Turk.   Minister of Health, Edwin Astwood recently toured the now completed phase one of the facility which is located at the old Grand Turk hospital compound, the minister says phase two is slated to begin later this year.

Director of Mental Health & Substance Abuse, Dr. Alicia Malcolm explained:  “Phase 2 of the project, which includes the construction of two additional buildings, will commence shortly and is expected to be completed by February of next year.   This final phase will allow for the accommodation of 11 more persons and will include a unit to manage persons who are acutely mentally ill.  It is envisioned that once complete, this home will also allow clients who are currently being treated overseas to return to TCI and receive continued care and management.”
