Turks and Caicos, March 17, 2017 – Providenciales – The Governor and the Premier both attended a recent preparedness meeting held by the Executive Policy Committee for Disaster Management under the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies.

DDME Director, Dr Virginia Clerveaux said she was very pleased to see such high level commitment by HE Dr John Freeman and Premier Sharlene Robinson; the duo is chair and deputy chair of the Committee.

Director Clerveaux added that she hopes this early and strong commitment by country leaders will translate into better prepared departments, ministries and communities and a greater engagement with the private sector.

The DDME also this week met with the new Advisor of Disaster Management from the FCO of the United Kingdom.  The Director called the meeting, where TCI was the first of the overseas territories visited by the new advisor Jon Snell, “informative.”   It is hoped that the visit will strengthen the partnership with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for more tangible results in the area of disaster management.
