Both Governments failed Jubilee Gardens

Bahamas, March 7, 2017 – Nassau – The failure of successive governments to address the problems of Jubilee Gardens and other areas affected by the city dump is cited as the reason so many have to be away from their homes for a week.

On Sunday a raging inferno erupted in what was believed to have been a small brush fire, which was taken by the whipping winds and fanned until it grew… skipping across the road to the dump… which sent embers in those 35 mph winds to the roof tops and yards of homes in vulnerable Jubilee Gardens.

Those houses which caught on fire, we are told, were quickly extinguished and no homes were completely destroyed in the fire which is contained but still being monitored for hot spots.  Complaints are widely published and talked about and penned since the fire and include claims of discomfort, health issues including respiratory illnesses and deep frustration.

Some threaten politicians, saying they had better not show up this election season seeking support and others say it was a planning error from day one and the bottom line is the people of Jubilee need help and action.
