Alleged Dominican poachers say not guilty on eight charges

Turks and Caicos, March 28, 2017 – Providenciales – There were eight charges leveled at the Dominican fisherman caught in TCI waters allegedly poaching; all 43 men in custody say they are not guilty of the charges despite being caught red handed by Marine Police.

The charges are: Use of breathing apparatus to take marine products, possession of undersized Nassau Grouper, possession of Parrot fish, using an unlicensed Commercial fishing vessel, possession of spear gun, taking marine products by use of spear gun, using any vessel to conduct fishing, engaging in commercial fishing in Mouchier Banks without a license and taking marine products without a license.

The Royal TCI Police boat, Sea Defender intercepted the men on Thursday March 16, 2017 and hauled them in along with their dinghies; fish was found on board the 80ft vessel believed registered in the Dominican Republic.
