Providenciales, TCI, February 24, 2017 – The Turks and Caicos is outpacing most EU funded nations in disbursement of the monies the country has been fortunate enough to receive.  At the Overseas Countries and Territories Forum or OCTA being held in Aruba, that fact is making the TCI a ‘star’ for already spending EDF 9 monies, spending about 92% of the EDF 10 monies and for already advancing spending on ED11 which is geared to education enhancements with particular focus on vocational training development.

Led by EU Program Director for the Turks and Caicos, Deputy Governor Anya Williams, who is a former Permanent Secretary for Finance; and joined by the Premier and Finance Minister, Sharlene Robinson, current Finance PS, Athenee Basden; Tracy Knight the TCIs UK representative in London and Director of the OP, Althea Been – It is said the premier will during the meeting sign program documents of ED-11 to commission an official start of disbursements.

The Premier explained, “I am pleased that the focus of the 11th EDF harmonizes with my Government’s agenda for vocational training, climate change and marine biodiversity, which are highlighted in the Change Document, our manifesto.”  The Premier added, “I will be establishing a steering committee to swiftly implement the programs of the 11th EDF and which will ensure that there are appropriate levels of monitoring and management of the program targets.”

Turks and Caicos is also named as Chair of OCTA, a position that TCI last held in 2003 under the leadership of the Hon. Derek Taylor.  OCTA started on Tuesday in Aruba and wraps up today.
