Grand Turk, TCI, February 13, 2017The House of Assembly convenes today, the second meeting since the New Year and the third meeting since the PDM won Government on December 15, 2016.

In the last session, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Dwayne Taylor reminded the newly elected government of their promises and put out some ideas for legislation which he would like to see reach the floor for debate.

“I would hope that something can be done, a law or some legislation can be put in place, or the issue can be addressed where we have persons that are being misdiagnosed in this country medically.  Legislation must come to address the issues with our borders, legislation must come to address the issues with labor in the Turks and Caicos Islands.  Legislation must come to address the hospitality industry situation.”

There was a firm commitment expressed too by Opposition MP for Leeward and Long Bay, Hon Akierra Missick who spoke of a more unified TCI.   “I look forward to the next four years being very industrious as a country, our agenda is very large.  I take the throne speech and its contents and the promises made by the government to heart, and I am prepared to work, where we need to work together to unify this country and move us in a direction where we are the envy of the Caribbean, but we are a happier people that look after each other and be our brother’s keeper.”
New comer, appointed member Hon Maxivanno Thomas during his two minute speech also spoke to the burden of illegal migrants on the country’s social, physical and economic infrastructure.

“Address the immigration crisis that alleges that fifty illegals enter this country per week, taxing our social programs and government services, congesting our streets, erecting shanty towns and proposing health risks, and introducing guns, illicit drugs and other contrabands to otherwise this tranquil landscape of our country.”
House of Assembly debate begins at 10am and is aired on National radio.
