Minister of Tourism attends Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Council of Ministers and Commissioners Meeting

Providenciales, TCI, February 7, 2017 – Minister with responsibility for Tourism Honorable Ralph Higgs recently attended the CTO’s Council of Ministers and Commissioners meeting in Nassau, Bahamas during the period January 30-February 1stThe meeting welcomed a number of regional tourism leaders, who collectively engaged in discussions on private/public partnership for marketing the Caribbean in 2017, culture and the development of the Caribbean’s Human Capital and the Caribbean Leaders’ Summit.

Minister Higgs commented, “Turks and Caicos Islands is pleased and honored to be a part of the CTO membership, as it is the premier organization representing the Caribbean as a whole. These meetings provides an ideal forum to discuss the issues and challenges affecting Caribbean Tourism and to discuss the solutions and to adapt best practices employed by other members of the organization. As the new Minister for Tourism, I am looking forward to making Turks and Caicos contribution to the industry”

Whilst in the Bahamas, the Minister also attended the Caribbean Travel Marketplace (CTM), the largest tourism marketing event in the Caribbean. The event showcased thousands of hotels, tourist boards, tour operators and airlines amongst other agencies in the travel industry. Turks and Caicos was well represented with a large contingent of tourism professionals including the Turks and Caicos Tourist Board, Hotel and Tourism Association and representatives from the various hotels.

During his travel, the Honorable Minister also commenced initial discussions with reputable airline company IBC, regarding the prospect of airlift to the island of Grand Turk. The meeting served as an exploratory one, with future discussions and engagements to continue with relevant stakeholders. Further details will be forthcoming as this initiative progresses.
