Grand Bahama, Bahamas, February 4, 2017 – Grand Bahama is now in damage control mode since Memories Resort and Casino announced that it is pulling out for sure. Russell Miller, Chairman of the Grand Bahama Island Tourist Board says there are still resorts open, there are still activities for guests to engage, there are still ways for guests to get to the island and there is still tourism in the nation’s second city which suffered a catastrophic blow in Hurricane Matthew.
“We are open and operational; we had some setbacks with some of our hotels under renovation but we are open and we are taking and accepting visitors.” Russell talked too about linkages of Grand Bahama via sea and air; he called scheduled ferry service from Ft Lauderdale and West Palm Beach lifelines for the island. Nine resorts were listed as opened for business including Lighthouse Pointe, Flamingo Hotel, Island Seas, Old Bahama Bay, Fortuna, Pelican Bay and Royal Islander.
Airlift from 11 states will also come in a Summer travel program, actually managed by Sunwing Travel and new to Freeport, Delta with daily service from the world’s busiest airport, Heartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, which is the hub for Delta.
