Turks and Caicos, February 27, 2017 – ProvidencialesHis Excellency the Governor visited the Department for Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) in Providenciales on 24 February. Commenting on his visit the Governor said:

“Proper preparation for potentially hazardous events, whether  a hurricane, flooding or other disaster, is crucial to public safety. I therefore have brought forward the timelines for contingency meetings and planning on the part of the Public and Emergency Services before the crucial period from June onwards. Our first meeting of ministries and services was held last month and others, including of the Executive Policy Committee, as well as a disaster preparedness exercise, are scheduled for March. As part of my own preparations I have engaged closely with DDME and used my first visit to the department’s main offices to meet the staff and review facilities and  contingent supplies and communications systems.   I was impressed by the commitment and professionalism of the DDME team.   I was reminded also however of the requirement for all relevant government ministries and services to play their role in the work of preparation.   People in TCI deserve no less than proper preparations on their behalf and the best protection it is possible to provide.”
