TCIG makes new senior appointment within the civil service

Providenciales, TCI, January 25, 2017 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Government has announced the appointment of Mrs. Bridgette Newman to the post of Deputy Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Home Affairs, Transportation and Communication.   Mrs. Newman, a self-described well-rounded and intrinsically motivated individual, has over twenty years of experience within the public service.   She began as a teacher at the Ona Glinton Primary School in September 1992 after studying at Mico Teachers’ College now Mico University College, in Kingston, Jamaica.

After spending ten years as an educator, Mrs. Newman was appointed Chief Information Officer, within the Ministry of Communications, Works and Utilities.  Shortly after, she became the Under Secretary within that same Ministry and two years later was transferred to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration and Labour.

In 2011, she was appointed Cabinet Secretary and during the Interim Administration, Secretary to the Advisory Council. Mrs. Newman has a  Masters’ Degree in Educational Leadership with merit from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom; she re-joined the civil service in October 2015 as Head of Secretariat, within the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Deputy Governor, Hon. Anya Williams stated; “Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Mrs. Bridgette Newman on her recent appointment as Deputy Secretary within the Ministry of Home Affairs.  Mrs. Newman is a career civil servant having previously dedicated over twenty years of service to the Turks and Caicos Islands and having formerly served in various fields as a Teacher, GIS Officer, Under Secretary and former Cabinet Secretary. 

“Since her return in 2015 she has arduously worked to assist in advancing several programs and initiatives in the Ministry of Home Affairs.  I am fully confident in her ability to once again serve in this senior capacity and look forward to working more directly with her.”

Mrs. Newman added; “I would first like to give thanks to God and my immediate family for their constant support and encouragement.  My motto is ‘To whom much is given, much is required’ and I am indeed humbled to have been given another opportunity to serve my country and stand ready to rise to this new challenge as I believe I have much to contribute.  I look forward to working with my colleagues not only in the Ministry of Home Affairs but throughout the Service as we continue to build our “Beautiful by Nature” Turks & Caicos Islands.”
