Kingston, Jamaica, January 30, 2017 – Jamaica’s government admits that if the sugar industry is going to boom, there has to be a significant investment by government to help with irrigation.  Only 12,500 of 450,000 arable acres of land for sugar cane farming is irrigated, when the industry is poised to pump some $80 million dollars into the economy this year and when it employs 50,000 people.

Industry Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Karl Samuda was speaking last week to 500 Jamaican and regional business professionals at the Jamaica Stock Exchange’s 12th Regional Investment & Capital Market Conference held at the Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston.
