Nassau, Bahamas, January 24, 2017 – This is a public forecast for today, Tuesday 24th January 2017 issued by the Bahamas Department of Meteorology at 12 AM.

General Situation:  A strong front in the vicinity of the Central and Southeast Bahamas (including the Turks and Caicos Islands) will move quickly Southeastward accompanied by a large area of near gale to gale force winds ahead and behind of the front through today.

Special Warnings:  A wind advisory is in effect for the entire Bahamas overnight due to strong winds gusting above gale force….boaters are asked to remain in port and swimmers out of the water due to very rough surf conditions and the high risk of rip currents.

Northwest Bahamas:  Weather; clearing continues becoming partly sunny and breezy as the front slides Southeastward today.  Fair skies and breezy tonight.

Advisory: Boaters are asked to remain in port.

Winds: West at 25 to 30 knots with gusts above gale force becoming West to Northwest at 15 to 20 knots by late morning over open waters.

Seas:  10 to 14 feet but up to 16 feet in gusts and Southwest to westerly swells subsiding 4 to 6 feet by late morning over the ocean.

Central and Southeast Bahamas ( including the Turks and Caicos Islands)

Weather: Variable cloudiness and very windy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms with some becoming heavy at times.  Gradual clearing this afternoon as the front slides southeastwards.

Advisory: Boaters are asked to remain in port.

Winds: South to Southwest at 20 to 30 knots with gusts above gale force becoming West to Northwest at 15 to 20 knots by this afternoon over open waters.

Seas: 8 to 12 feet but up to 16 feet by this afternoon over the open ocean.
