Providenciales, TCI, January 20, 2017 – Regional crime reports send shock waves throughout the Turks and Caicos as on Thursday, it was a bloody scene at a public school in Nassau, Bahamas as cell phone video showed enraged students of Government High in a violent melee and vicious stabbing which sent three teenagers to hospital; one of them was last listed in critical condition.
The incident caught the attention of Turks and Caicos Islanders who expressed to Magnetic Media that they dread to see the day when crime and violence would reach that level… still the crime situation in the TCI is vexing and the PDM Administration on Wednesday in a late day press conference reported that they have not yet met with the Commissioner of Police, James Smith.
Premier Sharlene Robinson said the Commissioner’s schedule has not yet permitted the meeting in this area deemed critical by the new government. The first opportunity at a session on crime fighting will be the coming convening of the National Security Council which includes the Commissioner, the Premier and Border Control Minister, the Attorney General and the Governor.
The PDM has long touted a plan to control crime and Premier Hon Robinson explained that they must marry their ideas with those of their partners to get a grip on the escalating violence. Media also learned that spending on repatriation is down, falling significantly below the budgeted amount and reminded that the radar was established to detect and not to stop illegal immigrant entries by boat.
Media was also informed that the project to have CCTV installed in parts of Provo was given another green light by the new PDM Administration.
