Providenciales, TCI, January 19, 2017 – A high ranking and very popular member of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police has been sent home while an investigation is launched into allegations of sexual misconduct.   The Assistant Superintendent of Police, no longer an inspector, as was reported by Magnetic Media online yesterday is charged by the complainant, not by Police with the rape of a fellow, female police officer and finally, the Police Commissioner is offering some insight into the matter.

Commissioner James Smith said: “We take our complaints seriously, and an investigation has been launched, due to the circumstances of the allegation, we will not comment any further until the outcome of the inquiries.”  The police say the ASP is not arrested or charged with anything at this stage, and the Commissioner does not reveal the nature of the allegation only that his officer is on administrative leave.

It was concerning to members of the public speaking to Magnetic Media and to this news organization that the TCI Police Force was slow to make a statement on the matter until news of the allegation broke online.   In our report Wednesday, sources to our media organization revealed that, sadly, this is not the first of allegations of this nature for the community policing police who will now have to defend against accusations involving one of the new recruits in a matter reportedly stemming from October 2016.

Magnetic Media is informed that there are other cases of extreme sexual misconduct, sexual harassment and abuse of power linked to the Assistant Superintendent in question.   The officer is unnamed in that Police statement issued late Wednesday.
