Nassau, Bahamas, January 12, 2017Marine Forecast for The Bahamas for 24 hours from 12am Thursday, 12th January 2017, issued by The Bahamas Department of Meteorology at 0355 UTC.  Beachgoers are strongly being urged to remain onshore and small craft operators should remain in port due to strong winds gusting to near gale force at times, and dangerous surf conditions with the high risk of rip currents.

General situation: Strong high pressure continues to support strong to near gale force winds across the islands.

 All areas

Advisory:  Small craft should remain in port.

Winds: Easterly at 20 to 25 knots over open waters in the Northwest Bahamas….& NorthEast to East at 20 to 30 knots in the central and southeast Bahamas.

Seas: 7 to 10 feet over the ocean in the northwest Bahamas…& 8 to 12 feet in the central and southeast Bahamas, but higher in large north to northeasterly swells.

Swells:  Large north to northeasterly swells.   

Weather:  Windy with occasional passing showers.
