World Aids Day: More young people with AIDS, Caribbean Warned to be vigilantlver & Forbes chime in on NHIP Finances

Providenciales, TCI, December 1, 2016 – It is World Aids Day today and all islands in our archipelago will on Saturday hold a walk a thon to mark the day which started some 28 years ago to remember those lost to and living with HIV/AIDS.

The Caribbean Health Agency said AIDS is most rampant among young adults, “Statistics show that eighty-three percent of reported persons with HIV in the Caribbean are in the 15-54 year age group, with 50 percent of that group being 25-34 years old…this means,” said Dr. James Hospedales, Executive Director at CARPHA that, “the HIV/AIDS epidemic has been moving steadily into younger and younger population groups although significant gains have been made in reducing deaths due to HIV/AIDS mainly through treatment…” 

He said Caribbean countries must not lose the ground gained in prevention of mother-to-child transmission, and called on agencies, educators, health organizations and families to continue efforts to sustain and improve the progress which has been achieved.
