Providenciales, TCI, November 2, 2016 – The Premier is hailing his bilateral talks with Baroness Anelay, the Minister for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office & UK Overseas Territories as productive and very encouraging.
Not only did Premier Rufus Ewing get strong commitment from Baroness Anelay to see the UK appointed position of Chief Financial Officer removed from the Constitution and from the TCI by next year; but that there would be an Order in Council executed to make it happen by March 2017.
Baroness Anelay is quoted in the Office of the Premier issued media release as saying, “a promise made and that promise would be kept as I am a woman to my word.”
On the other issues including a return of elected officials to the management of Crown Land; Baroness Anelay reported to the Premier that her office is awaiting pertinent replies from the Turks and Caicos Attorney General’s Chambers.
The Premier, Dr Rufus Ewing also brought up the issue of border control in that one on one. The report says that the Premier insisted upon greater support from the U.K. Government for border security, defense and internal security. Minister Anelay in turn invited the Premier to apply to the newly created U.K. OTs Complex Stability and Security Fund to address the need for greater border security.
The Premier is attending the Joint Ministerial Council meetings in London and is expected home on Thursday.
