Providenciales, TCI, November 8, 2016 – The Planning Department says that government is negotiating the acquisition of land in order to make more exits out of Blue Hills and other communities; Toriano Williams from Planning was speaking at a press conference to mark the first World Tsunami Day when he shared that private land owners must consider the public good and negotiate fairly and fast so that the issues of congestion and limited access can be addressed.

“That’s one of the issues on our table, the government is currently working with different private land owners and trying to provide the different routes.  There was one that was coming out of Chalk Sound, however that would only deal with taking parts of some Blue Hills to Chalk Sound area.  But now that we are currently looking at from Blue Hills into the town, I think we’re on a table and we’re working on that currently, so at this stage it will come on stream next year fully.”

A lack of foresight has apparently created a traffic nightmare for areas like Blue Hills on weekday mornings in particular as Williams said housing developments in the northern side of the island of Provo have led to a significant population boom.  He talked about possible alternate routes.

“Blue Hills front road, we can probably connect from the front road leading directly into the town or more up to the highway, or we look at the back road, there’s a route coming from out of Blue Hills that can take you towards the airport.  So different options that we looking at and probably doing different case studies and analysis.”

If a tsunami were to hit, Blue Hills residents would do better to drive part of the way and briskly walk the rest media was told.
