Providenciales, TCI, November 25, 2016 – Drone technology was pitched by the Premier in this week’s Cabinet sitting, as the Premier aims to live up to his promise to improve border security and to get aerial surveillance via drones.   When the idea was initially introduced, in January 2014, it was suggested that a possible joint effort with The Bahamas could happen to thwart illegal immigration via boats.

More than two years later, at a press conference held by Hon Dr Rufus Ewing regarding crime, the Premier told media that aviation regulations hampers efforts to police, from the skies, areas like Kew Town due to its proximity to the international airport.  A five mile radius is explained as within a danger or caution zone for drone operation.

Nonetheless, the proposal was presented and a private drone operating company could be contracted to run the tests.
