TCI Premier encourages team deployed to The Bahamas for hurricane help

Providenciales, TCI, October 10, 2016 – The Premier promised there would be help for the Bahamas and Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew and on Saturday, Hon Dr Rufus Ewing was on the scene when around two dozen volunteers left for Nassau to help.

The DDME said: “Regional and TCI Teams are deployed to assist The Bahamas with response and damage assessment following Hurricane Matthew. The Premier of the TCI was at the airport to see the teams off and to encourage the teams but especially TeamTCI to capitalize on this opportunity to learn as well as to put their training into practice.”  

The Premier did issue a statement following the passage of Hurricane Matthew and in his all clear alert, Premier Ewing said thank you to local entities including the DDME and assured that it was back to business as usual and he pledge support for nearby nations.

“I have been in communication with the Bahamian Government concerning the passage of Hurricane Matthew through the islands of The Bahamas and I have pledged our support to the people of the Bahamas as well as to Haiti. In this regard, we will be working in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) in their response and recovery efforts. I would also encourage our residents to lend their support in whatever way possible, as we now look to aid our neighbors in the Bahamas and Haiti.”

On Friday we reported that no statement was given; the Deputy Premier furnished us with the Premier’s comments saying that indeed the country’s leader did speak officially after the storm.
