Public Notice: Submission of application forms for electrician licenses

Providenciales, TCI, October 14, 2016 – The Electricity Board wishes to remind electricians of the October 30th deadline for the receipt of applications for the grant of a licence to practice under the grandfathering provision of the Electricity (Amendment) Ordinance 2015.

The Electricity (Amendment) Ordinance 2015 which came into effect on March 1, 2016 states that, “no person shall carry out electrical work of any nature unless he holds a licence issued by the Board authorizing him to do and is licensed in one of the following categories;”

  1. Electrical Engineer
  2. Master Electrician
  3. Journeyman
  4. Wireman
  5. Linesman.
  6. Apprentice or
  7. Engineer-in-training

Application forms can be collected from the Department of Planning in Providenciales and in Grand Turk.  For electricians on the other islands, application forms can be collected from the Office of the District Commissioner.

Please be aware, there is no application fee at this time and no agent or organization is authorized to collect any such fees on behalf of the Government; however licensing fees shall apply in accordance with Schedule 5 of the (Electricity Amendment) Ordinance 2015.

The recently established Electricity Board has the following responsibilities;

a) to issue, revoke or vary licences in respect of all categories of persons carrying out electrical work in the Islands;

(b) to conduct or arrange for the conduct of examinations for the purposes of determining and assessing the competence and proficiency of persons applying for the issue of licences or holding licences;

(c) to ensure that the register kept under section 2F is available for inspection by the public.
