TCI Youth Week to Celebrate Culture

Providenciales, TCI, September 23, 2016 – National Youth Week is next week and features events that will highlight Turks and Caicos Culture, ahead of National Heritage month which is in October.  Youth Minister,  Akierra Missick announced the thrust of the week and the activities and the excitement of young people across the country as there will be some new events this year. 

“Their voices empowered, to be empowered to take the stage to be celebrated, to be applauded for their achievements, their talents their excitement, their passion.”
The Minister listed that there will be tailored devotion times, speech competitions, a treasure hunt; a Taste of TCI food culture on Tuesday morning at the gym; an art exhibition at the Provo Public Library at noon on Wednesday; and Jazz in the Garden on National Youth Day at 4 p.m at the National Stadium. 
“This is where we’re getting an opportunity to showcase the talent of our students and our young people in the Turks and Caicos Islands.  So we are  flying in all the school bands, whether that’s Marjorie Basden, H.J. Robinson, Raymond Gardiner school band, I understand that the Adelaide Oemler school band will be taking part and it’s an evening of family fun performances by our young people.”
 
Friday September 30 is a public holiday because it is National Youth Day and it is expected that hundreds of students will join in the final Footsteps for Good with the Governor and his wife; it will start 7 a.m next week Friday at Clement Howell High and onto the Down Town Ball Park where Youth will again be on display and celebrated.  A church service at the HJ Robinson High Parade Grounds is where the week will launch on Sunday in the Capital, Grand Turk; the public is encouraged to attend this and all events to celebrate our Youth.
