Providenciales, TCI, September 20, 2016 – The Ministry of Health, Agriculture and Human Services in collaboration with Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) hosted a workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for Heads of Departments and related staff.

The Training was held from September 12 – 14, 2016 at the DECR building in the Lower Bight Providenciales. The strategic objectives of the workshop were to develop M&E plans for the following:-

  1. National Health Sector Strategic Plan
  2. Primary Health Care Renewal Strategy
  3. Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases

M&E capacity building is central to the development of an efficient, effective Health Agriculture and Human Services Ministry.

According to Mr. Wesley Clerveaux, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Agriculture and Human Services; “These plans aim to carry out objectives that will enable residents of the TCI to access high quality health and agricultural programmes and services that encourage healthy living throughout the life cycle.”

The facilitators of the workshop were PAHO Adviser and Specialist in Health Systems Strengthening, Dr. Donald Simeon and CARPHA M&E specialist Ms. Elizabeth Lloyd. This is the first of a series of training and development sessions to take place over the course of the next few weeks.

Ms. Lloyd stated; “We are pleased for the opportunity to provide training to Heads of Departments in preparation for the development of an Monitoring & Evaluation Plan.  The 3-day workshop went extremely well with 100% of participants indicating that workshop objectives were met. Participants also reported that the training was well facilitated and that the modules covered would enable them to appreciate M&E as well as to engage in M&E activities within their various departments.”

The next steps would involve the development of an M&E Plan for the Ministry. This plan will be aligned to the National Health Sector Strategic Plan 2016 – 2020; Primary Care Renewal Strategy and NCD Strategic Plan.

Following the 3 day M&E training, there was a one day session which focused on developing the National Health Sector Strategic Plan M&E component.
