Providenciales, TCI, September 13, 2016 – People of the TCI are no longer dying from communicable diseases like HIV/AIDS, according to the Ministry of Health it is non communicable diseases which are cutting short lives.

Aldora Robinson, Director at the Health Promotion Unit at the Health Fair and Health Torch run on Saturday at the Down Town Ball Park explained that we need to watch out for diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease and others.

“Over sixty percent of our population that have died, have died from non-communicable diseases like heart disease, heart attacks, they have kidney disease, complications of diabetes and hypertension, and so we want to, throughout this day, and throughout this week bring awareness, and to have persons really focused on lifestyle and try to change some of the things, not all at once but one step at a time.” – Aldora Robinson

On Monday the country marked water day and on Saturday three communities in Grand Turk successfully cleaned up Overback, West road and North Backsalina.  The clean up was arranged in concert with Environmental Health with a number of corporate partners including Chukka Tours, FortisTCI and civic support from the TCI Red Cross who came on board to see the country’s dive and cruise ship capital cleared of trash.
