2015/2016 Electors list increases by less than 500

Providenciales, 23 Dec 2015 – There are 448 new voters added to the Electors List who are eligible to cast a vote in the 2016 run-off according to recently released information from the Elections Supervisor.

Dudley Lewis had previously reported that there were about 3,000 people who are eligible to be added to the voter register, but who were unregistered. Well now just under 15% of those individuals are added to the latest list which will be published in the first quarter of 2016.

Further statistics show that there were slightly more men registering to vote up to November 30th than women; 232 males and 216 females.

More disturbing was though is that the majority of the applications turned in – nearly 75% of them – were from ineligible individuals. In fact, that chart provided by the Elections Office shows that of the 1,824 applications received 1,376 were not Turks and Caicos Islanders.

A startling truth emerges as it appears that Turks and Caicos Islanders, who could have numbered up to 3,000 for new voters, seem less interested in registering to vote than foreigners resident in the land.
