Providenciales, 24 Sept 2015 – It is an effort being led to stamp out gun violence in our communities, and this afternoon at 6pm a guest speaker will join the discussions on stopping the violence at the Gustarvus Lightbourne Sports Complex.

Minister for Education Hon. Akierra Misick held a press conference this morning to highlight the campaign. Misick told media that the Ministry took a different approach to Youth Day activities to address the surge in crime in the country.

Amy Crawford of the National Network for Safe Communities in New York is the facilitator for the national forum later; she is also the Deputy Director at Center for Crime Prevention and Control at John Jay College.

Under the theme, stop the violence, break the silence, Misick said she hopes the events will address the youth on youth violence.

Two international artists will perform at free concerts being hosted by the Ministry on Friday morning, including Romaine Virgo in Providenciales and Etana in Grand Turk.

Youth Day holiday kicks off with activities across the Turks and Caicos Islands tomorrow morning.
