Immigration Meetings resume; Commission Proposed In New Citizenship Law

Providenciales, 01 Sept 2015 – Meetings for the public consultation on two important Immigration Laws are set to resume this week. Both will be held this Thursday September 3rd, one at 10am at the Salt Shed in Salt Cay and the other at 6pm at the Regatta Village in South Caicos.

The biggest issue within these laws is the fact that the TCI Status Bill is said to create new provisions for the Immigration Commission when it comes to granting status. The commission will be chaired and ultimately under the ruling of the Immigration Minister of the day however it is proposed that two members from the opposition also sit as part of the commissioning body.

The commission would meet once a year to consider applications and would also have the power to revocate someone’s status.
