Providenciales, 10 Aug 2015 – Ministry of Health wants to tap into the contingency fund to buy a machine for the Blood Bank.

During the Appropriations Committee meeting last week, it seems legislators on that Committee are poised to authorize the funding for the purchase of an immunoassay analyzer which will be set up in Providenciales and will be owned by the public. Currently, the Ministry of Health and Human Services says it is reliant upon and has access to the one blood testing machine at the TCI Hospitals ran by Interhealth Canada.

Health officials are asking for $80,000 more in the health budget to buy the immunoassay machine.

Among the questions put to the team from the Ministry making the request was one from Appropriations Committee member, Hon. John Philips who enquired about trained personnel; it was assured there is trained staff but that there would be a special session run on the specific machine when it is being installed after being purchased.
