Providenciales, 13 Jul 2015 – The Turks and Caicos has joined other overseas territories in yet another sustainable energy pact, and it appears this is a pre-requisite for future funding to the tune $60 million dollars.
Executives of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and planning report that the TCI signed onto the Sustainable Energy Roadmap in Brussels, Belgium last month.
Permanent Secretary, Susan Malcolm said: “The Summit fostered exchange on the possible contribution of OCTs for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the annual Conference of Parties, which will take place later this year in Paris.”
The energy Commissioner, Malike Cummings presented at the conference in mid-June, “I was able to make a presentation highlighting the unique challenges faced by the overseas countries and territories, in particular the TCI. It also unveiled targeted solutions and actions to overcome the barriers for sustainable energy development.”
The funding is being provided by the EDF, European Development Fund.
