Providenciales, 06 May 2015 – The Ministry of Border Control has met with some in the business community; and while this invitation was not widely circulated the Governor seems pleased that this session will enhance the work permit process. He said to the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association: “I am well aware that your industry is still not happy with all the workings of the work permit system. I hear too many cases of applications taking too long. I am pleased to hear, following a recent meeting with business, that the Ministry of Border Control still plans to improve the process”. There were other strong comments from the Governor including another stern push for cost effective energy sources. “All the energy experts who visit TCI say that we must start to advance the use of alternative sources of energy.

If not they say we will quickly get left behind by other Caribbean countries, not to mention the rest of the world…” These cautions came as HE Peter Beckingham acknowledged that the Best Island destination in the world prize from TripAdvisor and soaring tourism arrival numbers do well to boost confidence, but also put pressure upon industry professionals to be more competitive. Beckingham said: “…no one should be under any doubt that the demands on us will get ever harder, and the competition tougher. We need to take a careful look at both our internal procedures, as well as a number of measures which directly affect visitors.”
