#Providenciales, Turks & Caicos – The mother of a young man shot and killed by police in Five Cays early Tuesday morning admits she let officers into their home — but she insists their account is false.
In an exclusive interview with Eagle Legal News, the distraught mother of 20-year-old Jaheim Forbes said her son was unarmed when police opened fire. She recalled hearing four to six gunshots that ended her only child’s life.
The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, however, describe Forbes as “a known member of the Five Cays/Blue Hills Organized Crime Group (OCG) and a primary suspect in the July 27 quadruple murder at Hookah Lounge, Leeward Highway, Providenciales.”
Police say officers fired after Forbes allegedly pointed a gun and shot at them, calling it a reasonable response. None of the officers were injured.
Cellphone video captured by Eagle Legal’s Wilkie Arthur shows the grieving mother raging over her son’s death, calling police “liars” and claiming injustice. Inside the bedroom, blood pooled near a window, splattered across the floor, and stained a mattress — stark evidence of what unfolded just after midnight on August 26.
The mother told Arthur that Forbes himself alerted her when police arrived. She pointed to a nearby window he could have used to escape or discard a weapon, saying they had even discussed it before. “If someone was trying to kill him, he would have run,” she said, insisting he would not have confronted officers with a gun.
Forbes’ killing comes as police continue their probe into the shocking mass shooting of July 27, which left four dead. Authorities had already questioned at least four men in connection with that crime.
This incident also occurred on the very morning a six-day police-imposed curfew over Five Cays was lifted — at 5 a.m., Tuesday, August 26.
